Larry Carrell Acoustic Guitar and Mandolin Where were you born and raised? I was born in Fort Worth, Texas and lived in Hurst through age 8 and then moved to Mansfield until leaving for college. Where and what have you studied? I graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock learning mostly about independence, school financing, and a little about business administration along the way. Where and what have you performed? Most of my playing has been in someone’s living room or on a back porch or in a jam circle. I’ve played at various churches, restaurants and a few private events. Playing at jam sessions is still the most fun. How did you get into music? My parents both played instruments, so my love for music came early on. My cousin passed an old guitar down to me and showed me a few chords. What is your favorite memory in music? I remember a night at the “Caravan of Dreams” in Fort Worth, Texas. Debbie bought me a ticket to see Craig Chaquico play a smooth jazz set. He introduced a song with a wonderful story, perfect lighting, and the sounds of a campfire. Then he played an instrumental tune that struck my heart and soul. That was the first time any song hit me like that. What aspects of music do you like the most? What I like the most about music is the energy it creates when friends are gathered and all the pieces come together. My buddy Ron refers to it as being in “The River”. It can’t be scripted or forced but comes whenever it chooses. It may only last for one song or maybe an entire night. My prayer is that everyone experiences this at least once in their lifetime. What else do you like to do besides music? I like to spend time doing anything with my family, worshiping, and fishing. What are your goals in music and goals for MRB? My goal in music is to play until I can’t any more and to keep on learning by playing with other musicians. As far as my goals for MRB ... I’ll leave that up to God ... it’s His music, His band and His path and I am here to see where He wants to take us. What are your goals in life? My goals in life are to be the best person I can be, to love and provide for my family, to serve and honor our God, and to leave this place a little better than I found it. Quote on music: “ Listening to music is great ... feeling it is even better .”
